Our next annual workshop will be on Sunday 21st February 2027
Ely Sinfonia’s annual Come and Play Workshops provide a great opportunity for people who are returning to playing after a break, for students who want to experience playing with a full symphony orchestra, or musicians who just want to learn something new. They are open to anyone of grade V or above.
Our 2027 annual workshop will be held in the Hayward Theatre, King’s School, Ely on Sunday 21st February 2027 (please note change of date). We will be playing Tchaikovsky’s 4th Symphony.
Workshops are free for Ely Sinfonia members (included in their Subscription) and guests pay just £25, with students up to the age of 18 also free (those under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the day).
We have a set number of places that we can accept for each section in the orchestra, as we have limits on attendees for the room. Musicians will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
Ely Sinfonia members are required for each section, however, they must still apply to secure their place.
The symphony is scored for:
piccolo, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets (A & Bb), 2 bassoons
4 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, tuba
Timpani, triangle, bass drum & cymbals
strings

Ely Sinfonia Workshop 2026 – Writeup
The 2026 Workshop took place on Sunday 4th January at King’s School Ely, with our focus on William Walton’s 1st Symphony, under the masterful baton of our conductor Steve Bingham. It is a beautiful piece and we had a very enjoyable day of music making. What a great way to start the year!
